More D&D Tournament Details!

Good news everyone!

This year, the D&D Tournament will be using the 5th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons. This means that they game system is very straightforward and easy to learn. You don’t need to have a single bit of 5th Edition experience in order to come out and play. We have a rules preamble at the beginning of the event, and while we assume you have played a roleplaying game before, we also assume that you haven’t played any 5th Edition D&D. The tournament has a fun and friendly atmosphere, and all scoring is based on roleplaying, problem solving, and accomplishing goals, so your limited exposure to the rules will not inhibit you in the least.

The other good news is that Ernie Cameron has lovingly hand-crafted some terrific terrain for our use in the event.
Not only will we get to use it for our event, but it will be one of the prizes for the winning team!

I have attached a couple of teaser pictures; thank Ernie!

D&D Tournament details

Greetings PrairieCon community!

We wanted to take a moment to detail a few changes to the format of the D&D Tournament at PrairieCon this year, and to debut the first of six pieces of character art for the event.

This year, you can register for the tournament as an individual or as a team! Teams must be between four and six players; if you don’t have the full six players, then individuals may be added to your team to round out the groups. This means that we will have a winning group rather than a winning individual this year!

Furthermore, the tournament will be a two round (4-slot) affair, rather than the traditional three rounds. We will run the tournament once on Saturday and once on Sunday so that you can have a bit more flexibility when working out your gaming schedules for the weekend – winners will be announced at the conclusion of the Sunday games.

If you have any questions about the format or rules, feel free to post them here in the comments or PM the page and we will make sure that Craig sees them. We will announce more information and details in the coming weeks, along with previews of more character art by Alyssa Fraser and some sweet custom terrain by Ernie Cameron that will be used in the scenario.

For now, check out “The Smuggler”

Fall Gamesday

Fall Gamesday

Our Fall Gamesday is on November 5th at Board Game Empire

From 10 am to 10pm

We here at PrairieCon like to make sure that people have plenty of opportunities for gaming, so our next Gamesday is coming up soon. This time, we’re teaming up with Board Game Empire, who is going to host the event at their shop!

Previously we stated that it was on October 29th, but we didn’t want to conflict with Comic Con.
So we moved the date, so you (and we) can take in all the geek, gaming and comic book atmosphere that Manitoba has to offer!

We hope to see you on November 5th at Board Game Empire, located at 1150 19th street to play some board, role playing and collectible card games and visit Board Game Empire if you haven’t already!

We are on a mission!

We are on a mission!

PrairieCon has come and gone and we hope you all had a great time.

The organizers have already met a few times over the summer to review the past convention and to start planning for next year’s, but first I thought I would drop some hot stats one you from this past June:

This year we had :

Attendees

Games

Gamemasters

And we’re hoping to make next year’s event even bigger.

Otherwise next year’s Artwork is being worked on, and if you scroll to the bottom of this post you’ll see the date for the Fall GamesDay.

If you’d like to help out next year please contact us and I’m sure we find something for you to do. 🙂

So about that mission?

Right! We’re on a mission, to collect and archive ALL of the artwork from PrairieCon over the years, going back to the VERY BEGINNING.

Since Brandon is such a great place (and also because we’re a bunch of sentimental hoarders) we were able to start our project with cover art going all the way back to PrairieCon XIV!

That’s over twenty years of artwork that we already had collected!

But that leaves the hardest ones to find!

So now we’re asking you older gamers out there to dig deep in your personal archives.
Blow off that old Dungeons and Dragons red box, crack open that old copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles RPG or your old box of Car Wars and see if you have any old programs that you can donate or lend to to us so we can take some scan them and add them to our archives.

If you do, then please contact us using that contact page up there.
Or bring it to the next Gamesday or PrairieCon.

OH! And of course, you can check out the Archives Here! We will keep adding to it over time as we get new materials from the past, and of course as the years go forward.

Happy Gaming!

The Fall Gamesday

Will be on November 5th at Board Game Empire
